Businesses have a vital role to play in combatting modern slavery. Modern slavery is a brutal way of maximising profits, by producing goods and services at ever lower costs with scant regard for the terrible impact this has on individuals.

There are a vast range of areas where human trafficking and modern slavery can impact on businesses. Some require legislative compliance such as the Transparency in Supply Chains provision in the Modern Slavery Act which seeks to address the role of businesses in preventing modern slavery from occurring in their supply chains and organisations. However, there are a wide range of victims exploited in travel and tourism where both businesses are used as the venue of exploitation in the labour force or the provision of adult services.

Many organisations are already taking action to promote ethical business practices and policies that protect workers from being abused and exploited in their own organisation and global supply chains but more needs to be done both for compliance but also to protect brands.

The Counter Trafficking Network aims to bring together professionals in the business sector to engage with each other from front line service levels up to senior management and security managers. Members of the network can access our training courses, our resource library and our professional forum where they can chat to peers, ask questions or seek advice from professionals in the field.
